Hi Guys,

I want to HOST website on my PC

1. I am using Win XP as OS
2. IIS is running in my PC, I checked by giving localhost, It is working perfectly
3. I had registered my host name on Free Server like DynDns.com, I had also installed DynDNS Updater Client program, as BSNL is providing us Dynamic IP

ERROR PART

Whenever I try to write my hostname in Addressbar, It is opening BSNL Modem page (i.e. the same page when we open by writing 192.168.1.1), though I had configured Virtual HTTP Server Port 80/80 in our BSNL Modem configuration.

Please HELP.....

Angela

Configure your modem in BRIDGE mode , make a PPPOE dialler in your OS to connect to the Internet , by this way WAN-IP is directly assigned to your computer.

type "IPCONFIG/ALL" in command prompt

Enter the IP address shown , 59.x.x.x from remote system

go to network connections. Click on create new connection from the left panel. select your type of connection, i.e. pppoe and enter username/password where required and place a shortcut to the desktop.

Step 1. Change your ADSL MODEM in bridge mode.
type 192.168.1.1 in IE
enter uname & pwd as "admin"
Edit the PVC dialler with VPI=0& VCI=35 in WAN SETUP
Change the PPPOE to bridge
APPLY & SAVE to close the wizard

Step2.
Controlpanal > NW connections >Create new conn

Step3. Click the dialler just created to connect to the INTERNET

Too many thanks to Simon..

I made Modem in BRIDGE mode and it is working perfectly.
Thanks again.....

Now, I can access my website from my PC, by entering host name, but when my friend from US tried to access it He got Error as Page can not be displayed, At the same time I can open webpage from my browser.

Why such problem ? Is it due to Dynamic IP , so that through out the world DNS Updation will take time ? How can I rectify this problem ?

Secondly, Can any one suggest me some Webhost Companies name(or URLs) who offer Web Hosting at lower rate ?

Please HELP....

If all that you are looking for is free space to host your website, I can give you 100MB for free. I usually charge 150Rs. No commercial interest at all.

If you are only trying this as an experiment, then go ahead. It'll teach you something about webhosting business. Since you have a dynamic IP, you'll have to configure the serve in such a way that users are directed to your website even if your IP changes. Ping me on mail @ vsanjay.com (GTalk) if you want instant answers.

@Angela

i would suggest u to go for a webhost with good set of realistic features. Do not signup for a host with those unrealistic plans like - 500GB of storage and 5TB of banwidth for a 5$/month fee. These hosts are clearly overselling and will definitely effect performance. Initially go for a host with a realistic plan like 500mb with 10 gb of bandwidth for 5$/month.

I would suggest you to try one of these excellent hosts.
knownhost.com (excellent overall)
innohosting.com (try the UK server as the latency is low to india)
steadfast.net (excellent support and good uptime)
icdsoft.com (this site VT.com is hosted in ICDSOFT. Amazing support with 1 hour reslotion. choose b/w different locations like HK, Germany & US) U may contact Vinu for some discount Wink

Except ICDSOFT the other hosts i have metnioned accept monthly payment. Initially I would suggest you to go for a monthly plan since it is better you have a first hand experience of the host and then u can make suitable decision regarding yearly payments since yearly payments come with discounts.

Due to finacial crisis effecting the world, lot of new and even a few old webhosting companies are being sold off or merged with other companies. So it is better you stick with a monthly plan initially.

And the other important thing to see is whether your host provides an excellent technical support with good response time.

Finally see that your host does not allow pronography/warez/spam/other illegal things as ur site may also be banned due to the ip of the server being blocked.

One more suggestion would be to keep your domain registrar seperate from ur host and this because u can move on from that host if u r not happy with its service without facing any problems for your domain.
Avoid signing up for free domain with the hosting package as many
hosts will not transfer ur site to the other host as the domain provided is free.

I hope i have made a good post that is worth to be sticky Wink
