Inspite of having followed every instruction thrice over, my adsl router refused to work for a few days. this setup of mine was providing near-flawless service for over a year. In this time, the landline phone had been showing steadily poorer peformance. Now net disconnects every now and then.
And guess what the solution is - lift the phone receiver, dial a couple of numbers and then place the receiver back on the phone.
in case anyone faces intermittent disconnections even after putting the adsl splitter before the telephone, in such cases, it may be a good idea to disconnect the phone temporarily (for example at night, using MTNL Triband NU 849 1.25 GB package) and then join it back in the morning.
Another is to connect/disconnect the phone line to the phone repeatedly - it actually works!
Or if you want, change the phone or get your MTNL guy to come and check the line with his instrument (they call it "line mein parameter barabar aata hai kya?")

I had that same experience once.
In the end it disconected for ever, though, and it was found that water had got into the outside jucntion box and everything was rusted

I have gathered from the experience of other members here that it is harder to hold sync with the adsl2 setting, and when line dropping is experienced it is better to use the g.dmt setting.
One could always try either, though, and see if it makes a difference

i second that. in fact, when my line got upgraded to nib-ii, i faced frequent disconnections with adsl 2+, and even my line stats were very poor. then i changed to g.dmt and now everything is fine, with no decrease in speed.

yeah this is a discovery i made too! You can just dial your own number repeatedly while keeping your router page 192.168.1.1 open. Keep redialling till the SNR for downstream crosses 21dB.
I do this every night to ensure that it doesnt disconnect.
Mebbe BSNL want people like us on UL plans to USE the phone for calling rather than just internet!
Also disconnecting the line jack just before the splitter for a couple of minutes and then reconnecting almost guaranteed an inc in SNR for me..
For all those fed up by line problems this seems to be the only solution
Cheers
