I have backup of the modem config. My modem allow me to take backup of config in text format and restore it whenever I reset it.
Yes, I have tested it with other modems and even one day BSNL guys brought their own modem and I gave a demo on that. But the problem is yet to resolve.

Today I had to reset my modem as I wasn't getting connection in Router mode. Now using PPPoE dialer in (default) Bridge mode I see following bunch of alert messages in modem log.

Any idea? I checked netstat, nothing significant. There is no virus in my lap either.
ATM VC means Asynchronous Transfer Mode Virtual Circuit. I'm not uploading/downloading anything, just browsing. Look like DSLAM is messed up! huh?

Now it is my turn to cry!
My link has been unreliable since Saturday AM... No, worse, it has been mostly down since then.
If I make an outgoing call on the phone, it will come back up. A friend of mine who used to be a comms man said this symptom is well known as a voltage leakage; making the call boosts the voltage so the link comes up, when it is over the link dies again.
This is, for me, the first time that I have known BSNL not to act promptly. I reported the call Saturday lunchtime, someone phoned when I was out in the afternoon. Then my wife got through to someone at the exchange this morning who did nothing but complain about her staffing and rain problems!
I called the 1500 number again this afternoon --- 'someone from our help desk will call you'. They didn't, of course, and when and if they do it'll be the same old script about filter connections and what error messages...

Yes they do, but it still counts with us customers as down days!
Here, they have days off when it is raining too.
Now they won't answer the phone to us. That's ok: as long as I am ringing a number the net will be up, so now I'm using the divisional engineer's numebr and ringing it permanently. It's kept my boradband going for the past hour

They answered after an hour or so, so now I having to dial a non-existent number and leave the phone off hook. It still works, although it lacks the satisfaction of knowing that a constantly-ringing phone might be vaguely annoying the person who should be fixing it.
My wife tells me that government employees are very good at ignoring phones, and, to be honest, it was a knack I acquired too, over years of office work.
Last night there was serious rain in Chennai, and even I do not expect engineers to go digging up cables.
Heck... why not? They couldn't keep them in good shape during ten months of sunshine? Let them get wet and muddy!

Today morning i was in for a shocker. after downloading in the morning during free hours(H500), i gave the net to my sister on her laptop.
to my surprise, whenever she tried to open a website the browser was redirected to ssss-multiplay.bsnl.co...ortal.war/
with a message at the top saying
"Since you have reached/exceeded you 1GB limit, you are redirected to this page."
And, it was written "you have to login to the continue".essentially, i was required to order bandwith on demand.

i was baffled since never in my 3 years with bsnl i had seen such a message.first i thought it might be a virus on my sister's xp. so i tried accessing net on my ubuntu machine, but the same problem prevailed.
later i called bsnl helpline, the lineman too, and all said that the problem is broadband related so call 12678, but the damned bell kept ringing and no one picked up the phone there. then one last time i logged out and logged into the connection, and voila! my net was back to normal
i guess the freaks had some goofup with their databases, and it got sorted out later. but, what is even more interesting is that since i never manage to register my complaint with 12678, how did it get corrected??
has anyone else faced such a problem?

Usage alert is introduced by BSNL to acknowledge from the customers
The problem is even if you have downloaded 1GB during free hours an alert message is coming. If you have not agreed to continue with username and password , You are prohibited from further browsing

Folks,
How is speed for UL users these days? I'm getting around 100Kbps/22Kbps (dn/up) during peak hours and even now at 10:15p here in Calcutta.
