Welcome to this forum gautam88. its nice to see a person post his own photo as avatar( assuming its ur photo).
Abt the disconnection its true what all u have said. but with a inbuilt winxp dialer and dyndns updater which can got from Dyndns i have kept a ip exactly for 24 hrs with not much load on the bandwidth.
u can check out this discussion also
vinuthomas.com/Forums/...art=0.html
further whatever u said abt modem inbuilt dialer shd be correct but on the contrary when the inbuilt dialler is enabled in mt800 it disconnects even if i am browsing or downloading after sometime and fails to reconnect. but some of the members like anoop who has a mt880 has the inbuilt dialer working fine. i am not sure whts bsnl does here. so if u can check out this it wud be fine

Thanks for the warm Welcome Note. Yup Thats My Pic Up there, For Real . !! It's ok to be Real , Sometimes... SmileSmile

I'm downloading Dyn DNS. Well, downloading's done. I'll try it out and post the results. i checked the other posts which you mentioned, but It discusses problems with 800, as opposed to 880. I didn't find any option like Timer settings, or anything similar on my WAN Setting PAge :

------------
WAN Setting
PVC Number PVC-0PVC-1PVC-2PVC-3PVC-4PVC-5PVC-6
Wan Type RFC2684Bridged RFC2684Routed PPP
Connection Type PPPoA PPPoE
VPI/VCI /
Encapsulation LLC VcMux
Default Route Enabled Disabled
PPP
User Name
Password
Use DNS Enabled Disabled
--------------------

That was it, and the usual Apply / Cancel button .

I'll try the DynDNS and let u know.

THanks,
Gautam

The MT880 doesn't have an option to set the Lease Time or Idle Timer. Somehow they have disabled it... Anyways... I think this subject to where you live... As much trouble as you are having with the 30 min drop-off, there are an equal number of people who don't.. so I guess you'll have to talk it over with the folks over at BSNL.

There really isnt much that you can do from your end if they choose to disconnect you... although you could try to continuosly ping some WAN IP with "ping -t x.x.x.x". Hopefull the ICMP data will be big enough to keep your connection alive and at the same time small enough not to eat away on your Data Limit.

It is in the PPP Status Kiru... The same place where you would set the connection to be "Always On" or "Start on Data"

Any WAN IP will do.. Most BSNL ADSL Connection IP's cannot be pinged, especially when you are using the Routing Features of the MT880. About the MT800, I'm not so sure.

Anyways... Just ping any Internet Address. That should call for some activity.

I tried using DYNDNS. The following happens:

It only updates the server with my ip when it changes. As in , the connection drops, my dialer redials, and then when the new IP is leased, the "Dyndns Updater" does an update.

It doesn't try and connect , even though the checking interval is set to 5 minutes. Hence, BSNL connection drops regularly. Maybe something's not setup right.

I'm attaching the snapshots of the dyndns updater and it's config file dump.

Gautam, I guess Kiru asked you to use DynDNS to keep your connection active because it communicates with the server frequently.

Apparently since it's not working for you, this must have something to do with the DSLAM. Check with BSNL. I'm quite sure this has nothing to do with your setup. If you want to eliminate any and all chances, you could try checking your phone cable for any 'bare patches'. Another possible reason could be your phone splitter. Make sure all phones in your house are connected via the splitter and lastly you could always swap the router with a friend and see how it goes.

HI
It is default setting that if u r not using the broadband continuously for 1/2 hour it will automatically disconnect. To avoid this problem configure ur modem as router instesd as bridge which comes as default configuration.

I'm not so sure about that Rudra... the thing is the DHCP over at BSNL seems to have a fixed inactivity timer which can't be changed by modifying the router Inactivity Timer... atleast this is what I gather based on what most of the users have posted here. Anyways, Gautam, if you haven't tried it already, it's worth a shot.

Also, like Rudra has mentioned you could configure it to be an RFC Bridge and then use a PPPoE dialer to try to connect. See if that works out for you.

if u have enabled the inbuilt dialer of the router then the dyndns client will not redial in any case it will only update the current ip address with the server
