i use a batch to automatically connect after 2am, but the problem is it downloads for about 1-2hrs & disconnects & it is not able to reconnect again the whole night.

if i manually turn off the mt880 router when this happens & again restart, it connects, but the problem is it disconnects every 2 minutes, the whole night.

is there any solution i can try?????

Bad suggestion...reformating & connection have no link associated among them all. Is ur phone line all correct ? Check your line for slight voltage surges, disturbences....

Goto "http://192.168.1.1/hwhtml/pMain.html" type "admin" as username & passwd.

On the left menu> Click Home > Wan Settings > See the last entry after Use DNS > yeah! Max Idle Time > make sure "Always on" is selected.

Save & restart your computer.

If disconnection still persists, theres probably a lot of load on the network and its is congested. you will have to live with the disconnection during the nite atleast. I am always on bet 12am - 4am and never get disconnected during the nite.

P.S - While youre at your modem homepage ...............(http://192.168.1.1/hwhtml/pMain.html),
check the summary>check the Upstreams & Downstreams of SNR & Attenuation.

Ideal Attenuation is below 10dB for upstream and abt 20-21dB for downstream. It will never be higher than your SNR levels. So, If your Attenuation levels are high.. Do as MentalSpree suggests and check your line ess your RJ11 cables (modem>phone, phone>modem etc). Test your connection after disconnecting all RJ11 cables pertaining to your phone.
If your Attenuation levels decrease and SNR levels increase, Call up BSNL and tell them to send their line man to check your line and to reinstall the hardware. (not the driver software; just the cabling)

@@ GUEST
u are quite wrong ..

FOR SNR read below's fig. description. ..
HIGHER THE SNR NUMBER WILL HELP U TO ABLE ONLINE 24/7... my mean no disconnection ...this SNR Figure depands on ur line and how far ur from UR Exchange .... even single joint will decrease ur snr up to 10db down ... Sad ... so be careful on that no Joint between NID AND UR ADSL MODEM

6dB or below is bad and will experience no synch or intermittent synch problems

7dB-10dB is fair but does not leave much room for variances in conditions

11dB-20dB is good with no synch problems

20dB-28dB is excellent

29dB or above is outstanding

For Line Attenuation

Line attenuation also depands on how far ur from exchange . Maximum signal loss recommendation is usually about 60dB. .but Lower is alwys good .
and this will also help to mesaure how much max Bandwidth u can get on ur line .
on 60db line u will max get 1 Mbps ...
but in INDIA we dont habve to worry abt it coz we are getting 256 K and for that 256k ...will be fine if it is above 60db .... Smile

20dB and below is outstanding

20dB-30dB is excellent

30dB-40dB is very good

40dB-50dB is good

50dB-60dB is poor and may experience connectivity issues

60dB or above is bad and will experience connectivity issues

I HOPE THE ABOVE DESCRIPTION WILL HELP ..... Razz

Going by the above stats, my connection is very good:
upstream SNR Margin: 31.0db
downstreamSNR Margin: 33.0db

upstream Line Attenuation: 4.0db
downstream Line Attenuation: 5.5db

The funny thing is that there are several joints in the line, and the phone line travels quite a distance together with the power lines.

Can I take it that power line & phone lines together is not a problem?

The power line and the phone line in parallel would be a problem
generally and lead to SNR levels going sowtwards......provided the
cables are not well shielded

This is because of some effect..that u can look up on the net.....
Basically the field created by the power cable ( if its not shielded
properly) would lead to noise on your telephone line

However, since u have a good SNR ...it should not be an issue with
the two coexisitng next to each other

@@SunilC ...u have one of the best Line man .........
i think ur too near to ur local Exchnage ..thats why u r getting such figures ..
and yea it can be problem if u parallel ur phone and powerline .....

cisco_tech,
well, the exchange is about 2 mins walk from my place Smile

I had heard abut the power line problem, which is why I was worried about putting the 2 together. They are absolutely together for about 35 feet. No shielded cables either.

Still, who cares as long as it works - just that I am a bit puzzled

The EMR from your power line should have killed your BSNL line. Maybe your BSNL line is shielded pretty well.

FYI... Overhead power cables don't come with any shielding... of any sort. Occasionally you will see Black PVC pipes around the wires... this is not for EM protection, but more of a safety precaution, mostly used near tall buildings so that nobody comes into contact with the bare wire accidentally.

@ SunilC... Nice Attenuation figures.

My Stats:

Upstream
-----------
SNR - 31
ATT - 11

Downstream
---------------
SNR - 38.5
ATT - 19

Well i tht we could solve our guests problem here !!!

Anyways guest. i dono how this sounds but here it goes,

Most of these telephone line men cover up cable joints with a single bound cell-tape. The telephone line carries a peak voltage of about 60 volts & accumalation of moisture inside thees tapes can cause line disturebences or in simple chances a temporary short circuit which unbinds itself after a small spark, this here can cause dis-connection. So what i simply suggest is to check up ur telephone line until the the extension box....

It'll prolly cost you a little money.... more in bribing the line man than the actual cost of the cable... but if you are up for it... ask him to replace the entire length of the cable from your house all the way upto the pole.
