When I click on my modems lan connection in WinXP, the sent & received columns appear mixed up.
That is, whatever I download adds up under the 'Sent' column and whatever I upload under the 'Received' column.

lol, why is this happening and how to fix it?

It might also happen that you weren't uploading anything but some malicious software in your computer was uploading without your permission. It is possible. Scan for viruses, spyware and adware on your computer immediately and use a firewall.

BTW, how did you get 12.0 Mbps on your connection? I know its not the adsl speed but I get 100.0 Mbps on ethernet and 10.0 Mbps on usb. but i never got 12.0 mbps.

I know I am not infected with anything because I know how to keep my pc safe even without any anti-virus or anti-spyware software. Been using pc's without anything except a firewall since close to a decade now and never had any incidents Smile
But I did run various scans and let me assure you it's simply the columns that are mixed up.

That screenshot was perhaps not the best example because I hadn't used the connection much (maybe that's why it looks like a spyware to some).

But after downloading hundreds of mb's, I can clearly see the 'Sent' column showing numbers like 100,000,000 and the 'Received' column showing only a quarter of the amount.
So it has to be the columns that are mixed up, only a blind guy wouldn't notice a spyware uploading 100mb Razz

@ashutosh
It's showing 12.0mbps maybe because I am using the USB 2.0 port? Not sure.

He isn't talking about the number of usb ports. USB port is a new type of USB port which was developed about 6 years back.

computer.howstuffworks.com/usb6.htm

This will help you.

Well as I said, I myself am not sure why it's showing 12mbps. The usb 2.0 thing was just a guess.

Coming back to the original query, anyone know a reason for what's happening?
If it's any help, my modem is in pppoe mode and set to auto-dial.

Well, USB 1.1 does offer a Maximum speed of 12mbps. USB 2.0 could go upto 480 Mbps. Yes 480mbps.

This URL will help you to solve your "High Sent Activity" problem:

Thanks.

OK it's me 'Guest', finally stopped being lazy and registered Smile

I would like to say that I don't have any spyware or virus infection.
There is no data transfer being done that wasn't initiated by me.
The connection is always idle when I not using it.

It's just that if I 'download' 100mb, it shows up under the Sent column.
And if I 'upload' 5mb, it shows up under the Received column.

That's all. No spyware, no unwanted activity, nothing.
