1. How can anyone say that BSNL has the best speeds? Do they offer 16Mb/sec (yet)? Airtel do. I'm not saying any of us can afford it, but it is there, so one could say --- Airtel offer the best speeds!

I am sorry for intervention. I generally avoid discussions related to comparision of services or tariff. Just a small correction to this point only. BSNL has a couple of plans i.e. 16 Mbps and 24 Mbps too. To the best of my knowledge they are not offered in all the places yet and hence may not be popular.
Regards

I've had a few days of down time due to the BSNL land-line going dead so I wouldn't recommend them. Service quality varies from city to city so the OP might be better off asking someone from his own city.
If we're comparing then we should be discussing the speeds attained using various Airtel / BSNL plans rather than the speeds offered.

kgmprasad, no probs... whatever we say about the speeds will always be proved wrong soon enough, as the companies off new plans. I didn't know that BSNL now have 24Mb! Last time I looked, the higher speeds were for business plans. Because I am happy with what I have, I haven't checked out the market in a while, although I really doubt that I'd return to BSNL, at least while I live in this house. My next step, one day, will be Airtel 8Mb/s. I have no need of an unlimited connection, I'd rather have browsing and download speed.
8Mbs from Airtel is currently 3,000Rs! It may not be fraudband, because it is truly broadband, but it is surely rip-off-band!
