Think twice before you perch the laptop computer on your lap — it can affect your fertility. Shocked

Confused
Quote:

Researchers in the United States have carried out a study and found that the heat generated by the laptops raises the risk of infertility in men who balance the machines on their lap, the 'WebMD' reported.

"Working on laptop computers in a laptop position causes significant scrotal temperature elevation as a result of heat exposure and posture-related effects," according to lead researcher Prof Yefim Sheynkin.

Prof Sheynkin and his fellow researchers at the State University of New York came to the conclusion after studying 29 healthy young men aged between 21 and 35 for two one-hour sessions in a climate-controlled room.

Participants were all similarly dressed in casual wears. After having their body temperature taken and standing in the room for 15 minutes to adjust to the room's internal temperature, they sat down and were given working and non-working laptop computers.

The men balanced the computers on their laps. The researchers then removed the nonworking computers, instructing the participants to hold the position for the rest of the session.

Participants with working laptop computers kept the computers in place throughout the session.

The scrotal temperature of the men was recorded every three minutes. The temperature on the bottom of the working laptops was also monitored.

According to the findings of the research, scrotal temperature rose with the working and non-working computers. The working ones prompted a greater increase in scrotal temperature — around 2.7 degrees Celsius — enough to cause infertility.

So, it is best not to balance laptops on the lap.

Instead of measuring the temp of genitalia , the "medical brains" should be employed in more important pursuits like.. i dont kno.. cure cancer, AIDS... reduce infant mortality.

This has been known for years. Probably this research might be new, but i read something similar quite a while ago. With the advent of new technology, problems are bound to occur. Some gadgets emit radiations, some emit heat, some this some that. The problem is that while R&D'ing new hardware or technologies its side-effects are ignored or not even known. And when it reaches epic numbers in terms of usage, medical researchers and doctors come up with the "bad news".

First they make us addicted to these technologies, and then later on ask us to "be careful" in its usage or better even stay away from it.

look at mobile phones. even rickshawallas and doodhwalls flaunt cells these days. and no one's looking into the harmful effects of them at this time. if some research reveals some truly disturbing aspect of cell phones, how will people be able to stay away from them.

I'm too old to worry!

What does worry me is the blocked ventilation for the laptop --- most misnamed device that it is!

And the discomfort of all that heat on the legs.

It doesn't matter , because the radiation from the wireless network destroys the male hormones in the body and turns men into women anyway.

There's quite a few of us hoping that perpetual mobile-phone use does cause infertility.

That way, maybe perpetual mobile-phone users will die out!

Wink Wink Wink

But probably the laser printers will kill us all off first!

(TBH, I've always been a bit worried about laser printers. I'm glad I never decided to get one for home)

You only need the condoms when you're not using the laptops and phones.

Hopefully.

Because, if I'm wrong about that then I pity your girlfriends!

It's nice to be joking about this stuff, but time will tell.....

These are all fads.. I bet you'll die of old age than become infertile. Remember the cell-fone brain cancer thing? Apparently, the only evidence they have is "empirical".. and hence not really scientific. Has anyone ever told u something like "my uncle died of cancer coz he used the cellfone a lot"? One would die 10 deaths being run over by unruly traffic (80 times if u live in bangalore, the city of vehicular manslaughter) before being even vaguely affected by radiation of cellphones (or wifi equipment; or laptops < -- this i still find hard to believe.. its more like a wtf statement).

Guys, how many people do you know have been using laptops or cells phones for 20-30 yrs,... of course none. The point is that these things are harmful, but they don't emit bloody gamma rays you know!!! For these things to adversly affect our health it will take some time, mutations (not the x-men type), take some time to happen Wink
