I'm confused whether to buy an iphone or not ?
I have asked some one from USA to buy an iphone or me, he's coming on 16th DEC,
now the thing is
1. the new iphone 1.1.2 cannot be unlocked as of now !
2. iPhone is coming to India in may
3. iphone 3G might come to india.
4. Nokia's iphone will also come in 2008

also i don't think iphone is worth the 25K price available in india, b'coz at that price i can buy a HTC phone with GPS, 3G !
and I think 17K is the only price worth buying at !, so i don't wanna pay more than that !

Yeah - if you're not in too much of a hurry, I'd recommed that you wait and watch for offerings next year.

Buy it only when the following is suitable to you:

* 3G support (both iphone and your network in India) OR plenty of wifi hotspots in the places where you roam. Exclude your office or home for wifi, as you can use your PC for video/audio.
* If you are given unlimited (or limited satisfactory) bandiwidth to watch video.
* Plenty of video content providers to choose from. For eg, BBC joined hands with Cloud wifi hotspots in UK to broadcast channels in UK free of cost.
* If you are frequently lost within your city and require google maps to find out where you are.
* If you don't mind hiding the better looks of iphone (because you have to protect it with a nice cover to avoid finger nails and other sharp objects scratch your iphone)
* If you are a buyer of bleeding-edge technology for the sake of showing a stunt in your office (or among your friends).
* If you a tech geek who can track the iphone hacking community to release next hack to counter the actions taken by Apple. Apple gets ~$18 every month from AT&T for a locked activated iphone. So, they will fight continuously to release new 'kill-iphone' code by finding whether your iphone is unlocked.

SO, the conslusion is to wait for sometime until some of these problems are settled. The scenario will surely change in 2008 if Google is nearing its final release of Android phones.

its amazing how many ppl make the same mistake of waiting for the better product to arrive . If you think like that while buying tech gadgets, you will never buy one because there will always be something better on the horizon. 3g? I have had a nokia n73 for more than a year, everytime it asks me whether i want to make a voice call or a "video" call ! 3G in India is not even in the initial roll out stage. They are still fighting over spectrum. It is at least an year away from pan india commercial deployment. Do we have any idea about 3g pricing and services? For the first year or so it will be prohibitively expensive. Iphone has wifi and Edge both so it is as good as the current "3g" phones.
Get the iphone now, enjoy its features for a year and then buy something else.
Nokia phones are easily the most overhyped and shitty phones around. For every nokia phone at every price point, there is a better and more feature rich phone out there. They are popular simply because they are simple to operate and they advertise so much. Take the n95, if i pay 30 grands for a phone and then don't get a qwerty keyboard then it is bullsh*t.

So Finally i have decided to buy an iPhone,
I Will be getting my iPhone on 16th DEC at price 17K or less (including TAX, but idk how much) but this is the max 430$.
I think it's the best bet, as of now.
'coz 3G don't know when will come to India, and still if iPhone is released in May'08, I will be still ahead of 6 months from others in using an iPhone ( i guess even if a 3G iphone comes it will be around 26K or more), and my iPhone at 17K and 6 months early, that's the best that can happen in India,
also even if unlock comes in a month, it's ok,
also i can use it as iPod touch , also in India iPod touch is like more than 17K, and at less than 17K i'm having an iPhone,
what else do i need ?

Well there are number of limitations with apple iPhone that you should know beforehand(scout the net for information). that said, its still an awesome phone with amazing touch interface which is fast as hell(yes I've used it before so I know). If you want a phone for show-off, then get it []

Hey lol in india no players cant even Provide a unlimited 512kb Broadband to Home users. so that 3G feature is useless... 3G needs minimum of 384kbps Bandwidth.. How can they provide... Cant Imagine if they Provide it will cost a heaven bucks.....

It's called being " ahead of others, and in every field ", and that includes the phone i use !!!

its a good phone and price was slashed not too long ago . at 17 k or thereabouts it is not a bad deal.
