It doesn't make any sense... Browsing but no downloads... I've heard of things the other way around but this is a first.
Anyways typical troubleshooting points... MTU, RWIN... play with the values... see if that helps. I'll see if I can find anything about it in the mean time.
Sorry... could'nt be of much help.

which browser you using? i think i had a similar problem with the download pop ups not working in opera. i was on dialup then. the popups used to work in ie and not opera. then i thought it probably was to do with cookies or identification of browser, so enabled all and set up my browser to be identified as ie. things looked up from then and the downloads started. now i dont know how or what happened but try it, maybe it could be the simple solution to the problem. all the best.

I am also just like you. But I am using it sonce more than two months. Some such hurting problems are faced by me also. It is very difficult to get help deak support phone. It is almost remain engaged or un attended. If our LUCK is good enough we may get some help\guidence on phone. I myself is at present facing problem of contacting helpdeak support. I want to straight away send my problems \ requests for some alterations by email to proper email address of dataone help support which I am still unab;le to find!.At present dataone is working but my telephone went off.Not even dial tone.
Regarding your problem just I can ask you reset your security to default level or scann completely for some virus probelms. even though I am not certain about the tips\clues said here you may please try it if not already tried these points.

hey guys i have a strange and grave problem here.
actually there are a no. of problems that i think are inter-related ie. problem of heating system
and (i think inadequate power too.)
so i will go step by step.
first my spikebuster is connected to the main power supply and is working fine.
to it is connected my ups,my mobile charger, and ADSL modem. my ups is connected to my cpu using a male/female cable.
and my monitor is connected to the ups directly.
i got my bsnl modem on last friday 2/9
and my userid and psswd on tuesday 6/9
earlier my system was hanging very much and working very slow as also
speedfan showed the hdd temperature to be 50-52 deg C AND SEAGATE 40GB DRIVE FITNESS AT 43% & PERFORMANCE AT 100%
so on tuesday 6/9 i opened my cabinet and cleaned my heatsink, smsp and other dust and also
repositioned my hdds in the rack
they were installed as -floppy drive first, below it was my 20gb WD hdd and below was Seagate 40 gb one,
so i reposistioned with floppy in the middle and 2 hdd apart, thinking that was the problem with heating hdd.
stuck all wires together, cleaned the smps. assembled the system. and powered on.
my modem is connected to the usb port.
made a dialer -broadband with user id and password(PPPOE)
then i connected to bsnl dataone, and it worked fine.
got good speeds and even posted about it on the forum.
but i cudnt login using my userid and psswd on the dataone.in site. showed wrong userid and psswd.
but since my system was hanging and working very slow, so i decided to format it and reinstall on wednesday night.
i installed xpsp2,longhorn trasnform pack9 etc. and the system became quite fast
(with bootup speeds=upto 1min 30 secs.& shutdown=30-45secs)
and restored all setting with the file and setting trasnfer wizard.
still now THE TEMP IS BETWEEN 45-48 DEG C.
now comes the real problem.
ALSO WHEN I TRIED TO CHANGE THE DRIVE LETTRS OF MY 5 PARTITIONS & RESIZE USING POWERQUEST PARTITION MAGIC 8,
IT RESTARTS THE SYSTEM AND IN THE BEGINNING SAYS "partition magic culdnt acess the batch file. make sure ur system 32 folder is not compressed or corrupt".
i tried installing the new hardware(my ADSL modem)
so i gave it a location where the driver folder resided on my hdd.
then the HUAWEI modem installer setup started
as usual the "driver not signed" window cropped up, but b4 i cud click on "continue anyway" it closed and
installation continued.
in the meanwhile hundreds of "found new hardware" windows triggred by rundll32 started up.
while i was closing them , again the "driver not signed" window cropped up, but b4 i cud click on "continue anyway" it closed and
installation continued.
finally it showed "some problem the harware culdnt be installed". try again.
so i tried installing the modem again and removed the drivers
and tried installing once more but same problem. after trying for some 5 times,
i clicked on "install drivers automatically" in the new hardware window.
and the modem got installed successfully.
now THE MOST IMP. PROBLEM
FIRST THE NEW LOCAL AREA CONNECTION (WHICH EARLIER SHOWED CONNECTIVITY) NOW SHOWED NO CONNECTIVITY. AND WHN I TRIED TO
CONNECTED USING THE DIALER I HAD MADE, IT SAID "REGISTERING ON THE NETWORK" AND MY MONITOR WENT BLANK. AND NO CPU WAS WORKING. EVN [CTRL]+[ALT]+[DEL]
DIDNT WORK. SO I RESET. AGAIN I TRIED AND THE SYSTEM RESTARTED AUTOMATICALLY.
MY MODEM WAS STILL ON. AND I STARTED MY SYSTEM. THIS TIME THE CPU WAS WORKING AND THE MONITOR WASNT WORKING-BLINKING LIGHTS ONLY.
I CHECKED ALL POWER CONNECTIONS, AND POWERED MY UPS AGAIN. BUT STILL NO USE. THEN I SWITCHED OFF MY MODEM AND TRIED AGAIN. ND THIS TIME THE MONITOR POWERED UP
AND WORKED AND SHOWED AWARD BIOS.
AS soon as the ystem booted up, i switched on the adsl modem and the system went blank again. thinking it was due to the
adsl modem, i plugged the phone wire to my dialup modem. re-registered at the netone site.
and whn i tried using the new userid and psswd of netone, it TOO SAID REGISTERING ON THE NETWORK AND SYSTEM WENT BLANK.
monitor blank, cpu ot working. so i had to reset and bootup aagain.
tried calling bsnl guys. they checked my network and userid and psswd. said it was working fine. no problem with network.
i also told them that when the net was connected earlier and some phone came, it sound rainy and disturbances. so they said problem in the line. so lineman came and checked the line.
all the modem connections are alright. phone line has some disturbances but couldnt check since modem was not connecting.
SO TELL ME WHY IS MY MODEM RESTARTING THE SYSTEM??
CUD IT BE A VIRUS? i now in a cyber cafe downloading virus updates.
EVN AT 47 DEG c MY SYSTEM IS WORKING FINE.

guys i have a problem.like many i download from 0200-0800 by adding tasks to the scheduler task.I used to connect using the bsnldial.bat file and start my bitcomet torrent client at 2:01 daily night. This was working fine till last week. However since last wednesday i have been having a weird problem. My tasks do start at 02:01 but mysteriously the computer gets shut down after some time. There is no fixed time.Once it ran for 2 hrs another day it was 40 mins and yesterday it was just 25 mins. Now i have checked up most of the options and found that nowhere have i mentioned the computer to switch off on its own.And yet my computer gets switched off.One reason may be that the power goes off everynight but that looks highly far fetched.Hence I need your help.I would like to know what are the options that may prompt a computer to get switched off and waht are the ways that i can prevent it.
P.S.When I am at my house I run the computer from 9 am in the morning till 12 am at night. But never does it get switched off on its own.hence please please help me.i really want to download a lot

One of my pals too had the same problem...his pc shuts down automatically after he had started downloading in the night. After an inspection session of his pc, i found that his UPS automatically switches to battery mode even if the power is present, after certain time...now the UPS runs for about 15 mins...and then shuts down...resulting in the pc to be shut down too.Since then he has been connecting his pc to the main line(instead of taking it from the UPS!!!). Ironically,he too works on his pc the whole length of the day...but it doesnt gets shut down...the problem seemed to happen only on the night...and that too after 02:00 hrs!!!!! Any suggestions???

As requested for the download problem, I have installed the operating twice and then again with sp2 that makes it 3 time, and i am testing the connection of the adsl as soon i install the os, so all the setting will be at default and more over no cookies will also be stored. I am using IE, not yet not tried with another browser, i think i will try with another computer and another browser like opera. the chances of virus and spyware is ruled out as i have formated the disk and installed the OS

if you are using windows xp sp2 with the firewall and secury settings on, you wont be able to download any file from the internet especiallt from http.
you still can download from a ftp client or you can download files that are on the http with any download manager.
you need to do some tweaks/modify the settings that are in the windows xp sp2 if you are using it.
