if u don't believe me, activate the stopwatch in du meter, download something for say 15 min(or surf for an hour), now check the amount of data downloaded in the 'service records' section (in the bsnl login site after u have logged into ur acount).
PRESTO the 'data flow' for that particular time is about only 2/3 of the value shown in DU Meter.
Why does DU Meter show higher values.........Whyyyyyyyyyy?

Set your dumeter to monitor all interfaces ; and both upload and download ; your difference os because you are not monitoring the upload.

Its not coz he is not counting the upload, but its code of the PPOE overhead (Like ethernet overhead) that happens for the DSL connection.

When I use dumeter and monitor download of a 4mb file, it shows as 6 to 8mb in reading while netlimiter shows very near results... In some other forums people say not to trust netlimiter.... Then what should I trust ???

I tried to use 'Commstraffic' software (Most advanced i've came accross).... but it slowed my connection speed into half... Do anyone think it could monitor accurately???

Wrong traffic monitors like these could make huge differences in bills

Note down the total download & upload traffic for one day in DUMeter and compare the same with the download & upload as shown in BSNL's portal.. try to make out the ratio difference between both of them. I think you can use the same ratio to get a pretty good guess as the what the BSNL's portal will be showing viv a viv the showings by DUMeter

I find DU Meter to be fairly accurate. If you are accessing web thru the router supplied by the ISP like Huawei MT800, 882 etc..then, DUMeter calculates the traffic between your pc and the LAN/USB interface of the modem whereas the REAL traffic happens between the router and the ISP. If you are using PPPoE, you can configure DUMeter to monitor only the PPPoE connection that you are using. All said, cross checking your usage stats in DUMeter and the ISP portal would help you to figure out actual usage.

Well I am using a pppoe dialer (not a router). For the month of Dec. 2005 DUMeter shows total traffic as 13.25gb whereas BSNL's portal shows the same as 14.76GB Confused Shocked

May be we have to sort this out with BSNL (yourself??? Just kiddin) itself. Cos, I was using DUMeter when I was in dial-up and all upload and downloads were calculated accurately give or take a few kilobytes. DUmeter, as I said is only fairly accurate.

P.S -> a whooping 14.7gb!! Whoa!! How much do you pay everymonth?

My usage during the non-free hours was not even 800MB for that month.. hence no extra charges Wink
