bsnl have updated wimax tariff on their site.

seem like they ended free night usage in wimax.

but 999 for 512 seems good if its mobile.

anyone know in which cities is this service available or is it just bsnl just building sand castle's.bsnl wimax

BSNL's new wimax service was released in Cochin yesterday

www.thehindu.com/2010/...250300.htm

512 kbps - 2 mbps UNLIMITED (no data cap) for 999 Rs/- per month. Of course you have to purchase the dongle (for laptops) or a CPE (customer premise equipment) which will cost 2-4k. There's also an option of renting it from BSNL for 30-40 bucks.

My question is .. why would this wireless service be cheaper and faster than the conventional DSL broadband?

Perhaps Bsnl itself is implying that wimax is less reliable than DSL broadband.

it is not so,
there are difference from wireline and wireless (cdm,evdo,gprs,3G etc) unlike wireline which is fixed through wire and data exchange is assured, wireless need to get point of sight(POS) where you may get good reliable speed in open rural areas, but could not get the same in the urban concrete jungle which stopped the signal by its high scrapper buidings..Where as Wimax technoogy eliminates this drawback(POS) You can get good speed even when you are surrouonded by skyscrapper areas..So there is no advantages in Wimax in rural areas as this performance at par with other wireline and wireless services, it is superior in urban areas

then why r the prices so low.. is this to promote only wimax and discourage the use of wireline broadband??

i think it is becasue the winners of wimax contracts are close to Raja and to promote Wimax what better way than to market it at discounted prices.

yep .. you are right Smile
2 mbps unlimited is only for business users at 7000 INR per month. Good job BSNL. Setting the right standards for internet in India. Rolling Eyes

WiMax supposedly supports speeds upto 30 mbps and more. Doubt that would happen.

www.bsnl.co.in/service...mepage.htm

I've signed up for their experimental 3G service at Cochin...will post speeds once I get hold of it.
